It’s cold and sunny outside today, which reminds me of what I believe a Berlin day would be like in the Fall. Today, I chose Serge Lutens La fille de Berlin. La fille de Berlin is in my top 5 favorite rose-centric fragrances.
La Fille starts out as a jammy, slightly sour rose with a nice dash of pepper. The perfume has a vintage make-up feel, but I wouldn’t say it is straight up makeup like Frederic Malle Lipstick Rose or L’Artisan Parfumeur La Drole de Rose. There is simply a touch of makeup there, like it’s the next day and the makeup wasn’t washed off the night before in a good, but slightly naughty sort of way.
“Wasn’t last night fun?” she asks her friend as she pours herself a coffee, “I was so exhausted that I fell into bed with my makeup on.” We’ve all had those kinds of nights! Haven’t we? Or maybe not, I may be generalizing.
The deep red hued perfume is perfect for the fall and winter and completely unisex. I would love to smell this on a man. Although, violets are listed in the notes, I believe they are there. The dry down is rose…
Top: Rose, geranium
Base: Patchouli, moss and honey
Perfumer: Christopher Sheldrake
