Fitting for a chilly, grey, rainy day, Un Jardin Sur le Nil hoisted my spirits this morning to almost normal levels. Un Jardin Sur le Nil (A garden by the Nile) is a fragrance launched by Hermes in 2005 and is in no way new, but has become a favorite for many people. Un Jardin Sur le Nil is a unisex scent and opens with a sparkly ripe grapefruit. I caught a whiff of skank  with the grapefruit and I smiled. The skank was fleeting at best. Darn it. For a brief time, Un Jardin reminded me of a salad. I’ve never had a salad fragrance experience and that made me smile too!  In order to get the salad note, you have to take an extended sniff and it appears below the citrus.
15 minutes in, I detect the peony and a toning down of the strong citrus finally smoothing down to all the things that make me giddy in a perfume. Musk, Iris and Incense. That’s why I bought it! I love iris to pieces and the incense makes it edgy. I have no idea what bulrush or lotus smells like, so I can’t speak to those notes.
To me, this is an anytime scent and although it smells fresh and clean on the upside, it does gently offer up an animalic feel.

Un Jardin Sur le Nil is a true piece of art.
