New Year’s Day Scent – Quick Review

Et, Voila ! Tom Ford Black Orchid ♀

Tom Ford Black Orchid is not a newbie, but it’s a goodie for New Year’s Day. When I applied Black Orchid this morning, my husband was confused and puzzled. Let me set up the scene. We’ve just eaten brunch at our house.
Husband said, “Why is there perfume on the maple syrup? I opened the syrup for my pancakes and I smelled something spicy and weird in the syrup bottle.”
A few moments before, I was futzing around at the kitchen sideboard near the syrup and I said, “You smelled my perfume.”
“What is it?”
“It’s called Black Orchid.”
“I’m not sure if I like it,” but he kept following me around.
Hilarious.

what I smell in Black Orchid

For those that are not familiar with Black Orchid: the top notes are French jasmine, black truffle, ylang-ylang, black currant and effervescent citrus. In the floral-spicy heart, dwells the Tom Ford‘s black orchid, imaginary more than real, and the base combines woodsy notes (patchouli and sandalwood), dark chocolate, incense, amber, vetiver, vanilla and balsam.

Oh boy, there is a lot happening here. I simply cannot stop smelling my wrist. To start off, Black Orchid exploded out with citrus and spice and flowers. It was everywhere, it followed me from the bedroom to the kitchen and entranced my husband. LIKE.
After about 20 minutes, I sensed the chocolate and the woodsy notes, but mostly chocolate. The chocolate is not Hershey’s milk chocolate bar, but more of an earthy dark chocolate bar you get at an organic food market.
An enjoyable start to my day. I would wear this to work, but on a day when I am not having meetings. I am looking forward to today’s dry down of amber and vetiver.
Mmmmm, Black Orchid is powerful, different and a little schizophrenic. Lovely!
